Tooth Extractions

At Elevated Smiles, we try everything in our power to help our patients keep their natural teeth as long as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes extractions become necessary. Although it might feel difficult to accept the loss of a tooth, it’s likely necessary to save the rest of your teeth from other problems.

Common reasons you might need an extraction include severe decay, infection, lack of natural tooth structure, or damaged beyond repair. If gum disease has taken over, you might need an extraction because your gums can’t hold your teeth in place.

After your extraction, Dr. Luu will discuss the different tooth replacement options we offer to help you restore your smile and functionality.

Wisdom Tooth Extractions

Between the ages of 17 and 25, third molars, or wisdom teeth, begin to erupt in the back of the mouth. The eruption is usually accompanied by pain. Most people do not have enough room in their mouth to accommodate the extra set of teeth or the wisdom teeth become impacted. Without wisdom tooth extraction, patients can experience severe pain and several dental problems down the line. At Elevated Smiles, we can complete wisdom tooth extractions in our dental office. We provide our patients with sedation dentistry for the procedure so they feel comfortable and pain-free the entire time.

Bone Grafts

The last example of oral surgery we complete in our Carlsbad dental office are bone grafts. With tooth loss also comes bone loss. If a patient wants to receive dental implant surgery but they do not have sufficient bone in their jaw, they will need a bone graft to become a candidate. A bone graft involves taking a section of bone from another area of your body and then grafting it into your jaw bone. Once the bone graft heals, we can place the dental implants.

Dental Implants

If you’re replacing your teeth with dental implants, the placement of the dental implants is actually considered oral surgery. Dr. Luu will make a small incision in your gums and surgically place the dental implants in your jaw. Once your jaw heals, they will reopen the jaw to attach the abutments to the dental implants. The abutments are what hold the dental crowns, bridges, or dentures in place in your mouth.
